Freshwater Phil custom tied Catfish rig

The Freshwater Phil catfish rig has helped me catch hundreds of channel cats and large bullheads over the years. The Fireline has proved itself worthy of horsing the big ones out of the rocks and current, the "sticky" sharp hooks get deeply imbedded once the cats crunch on the chub or sucker's heads. You can view some of my catches by clicking here.

Freshwater Phil custom tied bass rigs use ultra sharp 3/0 wide gap hooks, your choice of 14 LB or 30 LB Fireline in smoke color, or 80 LB Fireline XDS in green smoke color. They also have a snap swivel for quick and easy attaching to your swivel.

Order your Freshwater Phil custom tied catfish rig available in 2', 3', 4' or 5' lengths, free shipping to the continental US and Canada.

Note: For bobbers or corks, fish 1'- 4' from the bottom , order appropriate size for you area. For bottom rigs with sinkers, order shorter rigs for better casting and hookset control.

Instructions:
For use with bobbers:
- Tie a snap swivel to your main line.
- Snap Freshwater Phil catfish rig to your swivel, then attach bobber. For popping corks, attach rig to bottom, your main line snap to top of popping cork.
- Clip a split shot about 2' above the hook
- Bait hook with live minnow hooked through upper lip, or any other live bait (worms, leeches, etc) permitted in your area. Cut bait, shrimps or chicken liver will work too.
- When catfish takes bobber , reel any slack line then wait for about 5 - 10 seconds before setting hook in a long, hard upward motion. Fish normally get hooked in the roof or side of the mouth.
When you land the fish, stop reeling before your swivel hits your rod tip to avoid damaging it and / or losing the fish..

For use with sinkers:
- Slide 1 - 4 OZ egg sinker on to your main line, depending on the current.
- Attach a swivel to you mainline.
- Clip the Freshwater Phil Catfish rig to your swivel using the snap.
- Bait line with live minnows, chubs, suckers, worms or leeches, or cut bait, chicken livers or frozen shrimps.
- Keep reel drag / baitrunner moderately loose until the fish runs with the bait, then tighten drag and set hook.   - When you land the fish, stop reeling before your swivel hits your rod tip to avoid damaging it and / or losing the fish.

General Instructions:
Store rigs in original bags when not in use.
Sinkers and main line swivels or snaps are not included with any rigs.
If you plan to live release, crimping your barb will increase the odds of your fish surviving, but slightly decrease the chance of landing the fish.
