Freshwater Phil custom tied Northern Pike rig

Also known as the freshwater shark, northern pikes are know for their voracious appetite, often attacking fish half their own length. These predators are a favorite with my kids due to their big mouths filled with sharp teeth. The Freshwater Phil pike rig was my first pre-tied rig, due to the amount of components and time require to tie them. Over the years, I've caught hundreds of northerns using the pike rig, which also works for bass and catfish. Check out some of my northern pike catches by clicking here.

Freshwater Phil custom tied bass rigs use ultra sharp 3/0 wide gap hooks, your choice of 14 LB or 30 LB Fireline in smoke color, a 15 KG (33 LB) coated steel leader available in 6" or 10" lengths. They also have a snap swivel for quick and easy attaching to your swivel.

Order your Freshwater Phil custom tied pike rig available in 3', 4' or 5' lengths (+leader length), free shipping to the continental US and Canada.

Note: For bobbers or corks, fish 1'- 4' from the bottom , order appropriate size for you area. For bottom rigs with sinkers, order shorter rigs for better casting and hookset control.

Instructions for use with bobbers or corks.
- Tie a snap swivel to your main line.
- Snap Freshwater Phil bass rig to your swivel, then attach bobber. For popping corks, attach rig to bottom, your main line snap to top of popping cork.
- Clip a split shot about 2' above the hook.
- Bait hook with live or dead 6" - 10" minnow hooked through upper lip.
- When Northern Pikes take live bait , they don't pull down on the bobbers like bass or catfish do, the usually swim against the current or close to shore. Allow the fish to swim with the bait in its mouth for 2-3 minutes, at which time your bobber will likely go under and re-surface a few times. Reel any slack before setting the hook in a long, hard upward motion. Fish normally get hooked in the roof or side of the mouth, sometimes in the throat. A second hookset is good insurance.

For use with sinkers: - Slide 1 OZ egg sinker on to your main line, or clip a spilt shot sinker directly to it.
- Attach a swivel to you mainline.
- Clip the Freshwater Phil pike rig to your swivel using the snap.
- Bait line with live or dead minnow.
- Keep reel drag / baitrunner moderately loose until the fish runs with the bait, wait for 45-60 seconds, then tighten drag and set hook.

General Instructions:
Store rigs in original bags when not in use.
Sinkers and main line swivels or snaps are not included with any rigs.
If you plan to live release, crimping your barb will increase the odds of your fish surviving, but slightly decrease the chance of landing the fish.
